What is a Doula?

A trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to their client before, during, and shortly after childbirth to help them achieve the healthiest, most satisfying birth experience possible.

What are the benefits of hiring a Doula?

A birth Doula provides physical, emotional, partner support, and evidence-based information, and advocacy. A Doula helps with positioning and comfort measures. Doula’s help families to feel supported, easing the emotional experience of birth, and also helping to create a space where the hormones of labor can work at their best. Doula’s serve as a bridge of communication between their client and their providers, lifting them up to help them find their voices and advocate for the very best care.

When should I hire a Doula?

The earlier a Doula is booked, the more time you have to connect and build a relationship with your Doula. You also have more time to ask questions, gain new information, and plan accordingly. A good rule of thumb for booking is 12 weeks gestation or as soon as you would like.

Does a Doula replace my doctor or midwife?

Absolutely not. A Doula is NOT a healthcare professional. A Doula provides physical, emotional, and informational support. A Doula also provides evidence-based research that will assist you in making informed decisions alongside your doctor or midwife. A Doula does not provide any clinical/medical services.

What happens if my Doula is unable to make my birth?

If your Doula is unable to attend your birth, a trained back-up Doula will support you during labor and birth at no additional cost to you.
